After a few months in Tartu, I moved to Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. I took this picture from a window of the huge Hotel Olympia. I never stayed there, but I did shine my shoes once using one of their free machines.

I spent the majority of my months in Estonia living in an apartment in Keskuse. I always liked the view from that apartment of these three buildings towering over the trees.

Many of the large cement apartment buildings are not very well kept up. In fact, they were built to be used for only a limited time under the Soviet Union, until everyone received their own houses. You can't get the full effect of this one from the picture, since the fluorescent light blinked erratically, reminding me of the old computer game Doom.

This is an advertisement that appeared around the city one week: "When there is beer, there are friends."
|
One Sunday, we visited Hageri Kirik (kirik means church). The pastor there generously gave us some Estonian Bibles. Unfortunately, mine was lost in the flight home when the zipper on my bag broke in transit.

This is a shadow that includes me (holding the camera), and my friend Fred. We were on a hike outside the city for "Pioneer Day." We found interesting old underground military bunkers in the fields.
|
This is the entire group who made the hike for Pioneer Day. They even made matching t-shirts for everyone, and I still have mine.

This is a street in the Veskimetsa area, which became one of my very favorite parts of Tallinn.
