f I had to choose a single favorite video game system and give up all others, I'd most likely save my Super Nintendo. Many of its games are fantastic, and so are their music. Today most video games use CD audio instead of a console's internal synthesizer. This can be a good thing, but it also allows licensed popular music to creep in, which I see as a very bad thing.
I never tire of my favorite Super Nintendo songs, and although it is possible to find many of them in MP3 format, I prefer SPC files. These are very small (65K) files, each containing a single song. You can play them with SNESAmp, a Winamp plugin by Anti Resonance.
SAmp310.exe SNESAmp v3.1 (at Alpha-II)
You can find other SPC players at Zophar's Domain.
