(Examples include <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kahvi.org\/\">Kahvi Collective<\/a>, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/ubiktune.org\/\">Ubiktune<\/a>, and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/softphase.org\/netlabel\/\">Soft Phase<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/kyotorepublic.blogspot.com\/\">Kyoto Republic<\/a> was one of the smaller netlabels I came across, but it ended up having a high concentration of releases that would end up becoming lasting favorites of mine. And most of these releases turned out to be by just one person, Finnish musician Ilkka H\u00e4nninen. <\/p>\n<p>H\u00e4nninen has released music under several names over the years, including <i>Jean Nine<\/i>, <i>Trailing Space<\/i>, and <i>Finnish Pop Sensation<\/i>, with my favorites being the Trailing Space albums. Aside from the Kyoto Republic page, you can find more of his work on the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/music.jean9.net\/\">Jean Nine Bandcamp page<\/a>. Until recently, you could also find some at <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/trailingspace.net\">trailingspace.net<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If I were to recommend a couple of albums to sample, I&#8217;d probably go with these two:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/kyotorepublic.blogspot.com\/2006\/07\/kr003-trailing-space-bring-darkness.html\">Trailing Space &#8211; <i>Bring the Darkness Over This Place<\/i><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/music.jean9.net\/album\/all-of-a-sudden-i-am-full-of-scars\">Jean Nine &#8211; <i>All of a Sudden I Am Full of Scars<\/i><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/kyotorepublic.blogspot.com\/2006\/07\/kr003-trailing-space-bring-darkness.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/autofish.net\/images\/web_log\/0060_bring_the_darkness_280.jpg\" style=\"border-color: #303030\"><\/a> <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/music.jean9.net\/album\/all-of-a-sudden-i-am-full-of-scars\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/autofish.net\/images\/web_log\/0060_full_of_scars_280.jpg\" style=\"border-color: #303030\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d like to be helpful and describe the type of music that I&#8217;m referring to here, but I can never keep my genre names straight. Appropriate terms might include post-rock, space rock, down-tempo, and IDM. <\/p>\n<p>A compilation album on the Kyoto Republic site, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/kyotorepublic.blogspot.com\/2009\/01\/kr001-various-artists-these-days-are.html\"><i>These Days Are Not for Us<\/i><\/a>, introduced me to the work of <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jorikemppi.net\/\">Jori Kemppi<\/a> (who has also released music under the name Jori TJ Kemppi). I found Kemppi&#8217;s music somewhat challenging to track down.
