there we go. now you can talk. what a strange name for a channel. heh. Let's see... we'll start with the easy ones, alright? sure. but that makes me wonder about the hard ones. heh. Alright. Name? no real names now. ^_^ alright. Date of Birth? 16 may 1977 General Location? USA, state of Louisiana. city of Baton Rouge. Music Preference? music? hmmm. well, all of my very favorites have always been done with computers. that includes some video game tunes, some stuff you hear on the radio, and some really strange things you don't really hear anywhere. heh. How about ZZT? Are there any ZZT games that stand out to you as being the best? there are a few I've really enjoyed, for various reasons. it's hard to list just a few, because I know I'll forget some great ones. go ahead, no one can yell at you for it.... at least not at the moment.... my first favorite ever was escape from the planet red by barney9651. I also like llama masters II by scott hammack. war-torn by madguy is a ZZT masterpiece. burger joint, of course, is good too. there are a few I remember liking, but I haven't played them in so long I can't remember why, such as nightmare by barjesse, 'this game has no point' by... I forget, and oh, I can't forget warlord's temple by 'spectrum12.' I've always much preferred creating ZZT games to playing them, though. 'this game has no point' is by Patrick Ewing and is available at zzt.org under "No Point," BTW there are several others that are very impressive, but I either haven't played very far into them, or some elements keep me from entirely endorsing them. I know you've been doing a lot of experimenting with MZX lately.... have you looked at very many games? I've tried out maybe 6 or 7. Mostly been working on making your own engines, etc? but after a few minutes of playing, I just get more ideas of what I can do with what I've learned, and am too impatient to play at any length. I just started a game about 10 minutes after I first downloaded MZX, and I've been integrating everything I learn into it. .....any hints as to a plot...? sure. though I usually don't like to talk much about my games until they're released... it is tentatively called 'out of the glade.' it is a side-scrolling action game, and will hopefully be pretty unique. alright. how about when I finish a thought, I'll post '...' so you know you can go on? ... that would help a whole lot.... :P like that. Do you have any ideas for a ZZT project? or are you pretty much moved on to MZX. no way. I still have a ZZT game in progress. MZX is so complex, that I'm afraid converting to it would mean not releasing much, if anything, anymore. .. . Here's a question from another MZX/ZZTer.... "What exactly are 'Kudzu' and 'clysm' ?" kudzu is a vine. clysm is short for the word 'cataclysm.' look in the dictionary for further info. :) ... What part of working with MZX amazes you the most? (i.e. Music support, overlay, char editing...) I haven't touched the overlay yet. I really enjoy the possibility of animation. and the sound, of course, is great. though I'm finding that creating sound for a game takes just as long as the visual aspects. ... I'll skip to this one because so many people are asking me to ask this sort of question: Did you ever talk to/associate with any of the now-"oldbies," that is, other famous ZZTers at the time? I have had at least cursory conversations with most of the ones whose games I enjoyed. the ones I knew/know best are probably spectrum12 (mwilliams) and barney9651 (yenrab). I interviewed many others, sort of like this. only not so in-depth. ... yes, as found on the remnants of your Land of ZZT page. my ZZT pages are now all transferred over and revamped. slightly. ... ....let's see... "How many interviews have you done?" 9 (quoted questions are from ZZT/MZXers-- thanks to all who sent in questions) "How long do you see yourself working with ZZT/MZX?" well, I don't believe in 'officially' quitting. some may have noticed that I have gone a few years without releasing anything, though. I will always be interested in making video games. the format may change, however. it all just depends on what is going on in real life. ... "Are you writing games or programming in other environments then zzt and megazeux?" I made a game once on the TI-82 calculator. and I have done several projects over the years on other platforms. my commodore 64, for example, had a program quite similar to megazeux called 'Gary Kitchen's game maker.' and the first PC GCS I found was simply called 'game maker.' I found it in the back of an electronic gaming monthly and ordered it for $50 (!) ... I want to try out verge 2 sometime when a stable version is released. .. . *** zorkboy has quit IRC (Killed (NickOP (Kill requested by _zorkboy_))) *** zorkboy (z0rk@vw-22034.uu.net) has joined #cly5m ? `op zorkboy *** cly5m sets mode: +o zorkboy there we go. sorry about that, my power went out.... * zorkboy is red. well, next time I know how to op someone. heh. I have to leave soon. if there are lots more questions, I can come back later tonight. "What was your inspiration behind Kudzu?" there really wasn't much behind kudzu. There are a couple more, but I can ask them later and post them separately. as with all my games, I didn't plan it out first. I'd just get new ideas at school or work and add them next time I had a chance. ... Well, if you need to leave, thanks for coming and talking with me. I wasn't quite counting on the power going out, but I guess something had to happen, eh? if you have a couple more, go ahead. I'll just answer them quick. umm... most of the rest are kinda linked. normally I try never to be in a hurry, but I'll miss my ride if i wait. :) I'll talk to you again later and get some more answers. ok. I can return tonight about 10 or 11 central, if you want. no one else has been very talkative here. :) that would be nice.... maybe we could make that an open discussion? sure. why not. alright! open discussion with clysm, everyone, 10 or 11 central tonight see you later, then. thanks for coming. no problem. though I can't understand why anyone would want to read an interview with someone not famous at all. ;) heh. bye. *** cly5m has quit IRC (Exit: Leaving) *** Topic is 'open mike Interview with cly5m.... 10 or 11 p.m. central time tonight' *** Set by zorkboy on Wed Jun 16 19:37:28 #cly5m created Jun 16 17:12:48
