64 Songs

When finished, this will be a collection of 64 songs that you can legally download for free. They are in no particular order, but I recommend them all.

Images are generally taken from the site where the music is found. 64 might be overly optimistic, but we'll see.
01
Asteroid Hopper
by Desert Planet

Desert Planet (Jukka Tarkiainen and Jari Mikkola) is a Finnish group that specializes in retro video game-sounding music. They have several albums, and apparently put on a lot of live shows.

You can find this and other songs on Desert Planet's music page.
02
Tugboat She's a Doll
by Tugboat

Tugboat (Jesse Novak) composes and performs melodic 8-bit video game-style music. You can find this and a few other songs on his MySpace page. You can also buy his (very cheap) CD, which I recommend.
03
Logic Air Force (BeaT's Remix)
by Seth Peelle (BeaT)

An arrangementof a song by a Japanese music group called P-MODEL. I've never heard the original version. You can find this song on BeaT's music page.
04
The Picard Song
by DarkMateria

This song is based on audio clips from Star Trek: The Next Generation. You can hear a small part of the song on This YTMND page, but the full song is definitely worth hearing.

You can find this song on DarkMateria's music page.
05
Detail from The 8bits of Christmas cover The First Blip Blop Noel
by DMa-Sc

A Commodore 64-style song from a chiptune album called The 8bits of Christmas. Another standout track is Goto80's Last Christmas, but I already have another Goto80 song on this page.

You can find the whole album on the 8bitpeoples discography page.
06
No More Memory
by Cyriak

Cyriak used this song as the soundtrack to his animation mix video. (Warning: some disturbing images.) He has other creative animation work on his site, some of which is pretty violent or otherwise unpleasant.

You can find this song on Cyriak's Addasong page.
07
Deep Winter
by Ultimyth

An arrangement of "Deep Mountain" from Perfect Cherry Blossom, which is a freeware shooter by Zun (Team Shanghai Alice).

You can find this song on Ultimyth's music page. (The words "Deep Winter" are in English.)
08
Worldwide Overnight Disembowelment Delivery Service
by The Good-Natured Ocelot

An instrumental that kind of reminds me of Mu-ziq or Aphex Twin. You can find this and other music at bicycle-for-slugs.org.
09
Detail from The 8bits of Christmas cover Killer Piller
by Goto80

An 8-bit instrumental that's part of Goto80's Zyndabox EP. Goto80 has many other free songs as well.

You can find this song on this page of Goto80's site.
10
Mjandrio
by Stimmhorn

This song starts out with some yodeling, gets kind of distorted, and ends with what sounds like a dirge. They have other interesting music as well.

You can find this song on this page of Stimmhorn's site.
11
Flight Path 737
by Tim Forsyth

A haunting arrangement of a song by David Dunn for a flight simulator called Flight Path 737.

You can find this song at remix.kwed.org.
12
Softspoken
by fluffy

A song from fluffy's album of electronic music called Pointed Little Quill (under the name Fluffy Porcupine).

You can find this song on this page of Fluffy's site. You can also buy the CD from CDBaby.
13
Duck Blur
by Star Salzman

Based on music from the moon area of the Ducktales NES game.

You can find this song at OverClocked Remix. Salzman has other good songs as well.
14
Erebus (piano)
by Andrea Baroni

A piano arrangement of music by Dave Lee from Erebus, a 1986 C64 game.

You can find this song at remix.kwed.org. You can find original music by Baroni here.
15
Red Spiders
by Shnabubula

A pretty odd arrangement of music from the 1988 NES game The Guardian Legend. The original music is by Miyamo Shant.

You can find this song at OverClocked Remix.
